How the WOTC Calculator Works
Credit Calculation (40% Standard Rate)
For employees working 400 or more hours in their first year of employment, the credit is 40% of qualified first-year wages, subject to a maximum wage cap that varies by target group. The most common scenarios are $6,000 maximum wages (credit of $2,400) or $24,000 for certain veterans (credit of $9,600).
Standard Credit = 40% × MIN(First-Year Wages, Max Wages)
Example: 40% × $6,000 = $2,400 creditReduced Credit (25% Rate)
For employees working between 120 and 399 hours in their first year, the credit rate drops to 25% of qualified wages, still subject to the same maximum wage caps by target group.
Reduced Credit = 25% × MIN(First-Year Wages, Max Wages)
Example: 25% × $6,000 = $1,500 creditCertification Requirements
Pre-screening and certification through your State Workforce Agency is mandatory. Form 8850 must be completed on or before the day of the job offer, and both Form 8850 and ETA Form 9061/9062 must be submitted within 28 days of the start date. No certification = no credit.
